Teacher training at Madoc Ailak Primary School
Odong Oenen Jack Mike is an English and Social Sciences teacher at Madoc Ailak Primary School in Uganda. He has made the most of the training opportunities that Build Africa has provided.
“Build Africa has given us many workshops, building our confidence and skills, improving our teaching methods and approaches to education.
"I have learned better exam setting skills because of an item writing workshop, and how to identify the causes of absenteeism at a child rights workshop.
"There is now a process for us to address the problem of child rights. For example, we have Friday meetings now where we pass on messages to the children about the dangers of inappropriate touches and the importance of regular school attendance.
"Through an HIV and AIDS awareness workshop we also got the opportunity to pay a special visit to another school so we could share good practices."The morale of the teachers has improved because of the workshops. There is good teamwork and a good understanding of their roles and the needs of the school”.
