You may already have thought about leaving a legacy to charity in your Will. We’ve put together a few FAQs to help answer any questions you may have.

Why does Street Child offer free Will-writing services?

We offer free Will-writing services to help make it easier for you to write or update your Will. Many people who use the services also choose to support us by including a gift in their Will to Street Child.

 

How do I leave a gift in my Will?

 
It’s simple, all you need to do is let your solicitor know and they can write or help to amend your Will. You’ll need our charity number and address which is:

Alternatively you can use our free Will writing service through the National Free Will Network. These service will give you the option to leave a gift to Street Child and they will help you to include it in your wishes. 
 
 

What kind of gift can I leave in my Will?

You can leave a share of your estate, a specific sum of money, or a specific item.
 
 

How does leaving a gift in my will affect Inheritance Tax?

At point of writing, leaving a gift in your Will will not be included in valuing of your estate for Inheritance Tax. The gift value will be deducted from your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated. 
 
 

What wording should I use to leave a gift in my Will?

A share of your estate:
My bequest to Street Child of the residual estate (or a proportion of) - a residuary or percentage legacy "Subject to the payment of my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses, I give the whole (residuary) or ______% of my estate not otherwise disposed of by this my Will to Street Child (registered charity number 1128536) of 206-208 Stewart's Rd, Nine Elms, London SW8 4UB, for the general purposes of Street Child and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer of Street Child shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.”
 
A specific sum of money:
My bequest to Street Child for a set sum - a pecuniary legacy "I give free of tax to Street Child (registered charity number 1128536) of 206-208 Stewart's Rd, Nine Elms, London SW8 4UB, the sum of £______ for the general purposes of Street Child and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall or any other proper officer of Street Child be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors."
 
A specific item:
I give to Street Child (registered charity number 1128536) of 206-208 Stewart's Rd, Nine Elms, London SW8 4UB, (write here what you wish to give) for the general purposes of Street Child for its charitable purposes, and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or any other proper officer of Street Child shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.”
 

What happens if I change my mind?

You can change the content of your Will at any time. We would never ask you to tell us whether you have left us a gift in your will. However, we're always very happy to hear from you, so we can say thank you for any support.
 

If I leave a gift in my Will, do I need to tell you?

We understand your Will is private and personal so the choice of notifying us is entirely yours. But, if you do decide, or intend to leave a gift in your Will we would love to hear from you to say thank you.
