At Build Africa we are always looking at ways to make the charity more effective and to take us closer to our vision of seeing every child in school, and every child learning.
Over the course of the year I have led a review of the charity as a whole, taking into account the impact we want to have in the world and the incredible need that is out there. As part of this process I spoke with Street Child – a charity that shares our aims and objectives. It quickly became clear that, together, we could have a much greater impact than the sum of our parts.
Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. They understand the vital role of education in ending poverty. And they operate in Kenya and Uganda as we do – but, crucially, also in nine other countries including Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Nigeria in West Africa.
These talks have now come to a close and I am delighted to announce that Build Africa has become part of the Street Child family. I hope that you believe, as I do, that this is an exciting step forward and will enable us to reach even more children who are not yet getting the education they deserve.
